The world could have been very interesting, but we knew so little about it that it was hard to get drawn in.Same for the characters. As someone else stated Chris didn't do much but whine or cry thru most of the book and there wasn't any reason to like her. No one had much development and we didn't get to know any of them, therefore we had no real reason to care about anything that might happen to them. It also felt incredibly rushed and I don't know if it was supposed to or not.
LOL If someone dropped more than a million dollars in my bank account and i knew it was mine, I certainly wouldn't be screaming at the bank clerk about it!
There were a few threads here that had potential, but nothing was ever fleshed out to matter much.

Royal Blood Kolina Topel Emily Joncas Felicia Topel Alicia Dixon 9781449976101 Books Reviews
This book was one of the best pleasure books I have read in awhile! It was full of suspense, adventure, romance, heartache and much more. I could not put it down when I started it, the way Topel writes enraptures and entrances you inside the story, the way she describes what is going on makes it seem as if the whole story was going on infront of you! From Christina's discovery's of who and what she is to what she must decide to become it is a breathtaking journey in which you must read to completly understand!
$1 was too much to pay for this. Free would still be a waste of space on your kindle. It's short, but not short enough to spend your time on. The author has no skill at writing at all. Nothing is descriptive, nothing has a good turn of a phrase, and it jumps around wildly popping in new characters willy-nilly without any fleshing out at all. Thoroughly awful.
I purchased this book for a quick read between books that I am waiting for on preorder. It got good reviews and the price can't be beat. I have to say that thought the premise was good, I was very disappointed in the ending. Without giving out any spoilers, all I can say is that I prefer a happy ending, and for me, this wasn't it. I was crying at the end, which is a tribute to the authors writing as I was moved. But if you don't mind things not turning out exactly how you think they should, and some unanswered questions, it may be worth it for you. Ok, spoiler alert I was wanting the author to explain how Christina's mother who raised her came to be in that situation. How did she know her birth mother?? It is not really clear what happens to Alex, it is kind of just let go. You are lead to believe the obvious..but is that really the case??? I hope these questions are answered if there is a sequel. Also, very little romance in this one.
The author did not fully utilize the potential this book had. It felt like she was just piggy backing on the Twilight vampire craze. I felt the story line was far too rushed and she did not take the time to really develop the characters. For 99 cents on the kindle, it was worth my money, but I would not pay more for the book.
It's interesting the way it pulls you into the story, the weird twist and turns leave's you wanting more, and sad at the end.
I'm not sure where to start with the list of things I didn't like about this book. There was absolutely no world-building, no relationship building, no fleshing out of the characters at all. I took nothing away from this utterly forgettable story.
The protagonist, Chris, did nothing but whine the entire book. She had literally no personality besides angst. Which is ironic, because she specifically states "I'm not a happy-go-lucky type of person, but I don't let my emotions rule me either." Two pages later she's shouting at a bank clerk. Then she spends the remainder of the novella bursting into tears and/or freaking out. That's pretty much the definition of letting your emotions rule you. The random breakdowns every five pages and self-piting inner monologues got really old really quickly, and made Chris a downright unlikeable character.
Alex, the romantic interest, has even less personality than Chris does. As in none. He spends the entire first half of the book holding her and comforting her through her dozens of random break-downs with no real input at all, then the second half after the big reveal he makes no attempt to win back the trust of the woman he supposedly loves more than anything. And for that matter, Chris made no attempt to fix their relationship at all, despite her frequent yearnings for the way things used to be. There was absolutely no communication between them at all on the subject of their relationship after the fight, which is so unrealistic it's funny, considering they were supposed to be so omginlove. The writer tried to make Alex the "perfect guy", but by doing so ended up with a soulless husk of a character.
The vampires didn't come in until halfway through an already short novella, leaving no time to flesh out the lore or the world - especially when you take into consideration a great chunk of the 2nd act was Chris throwing more temper tantrums. Half a dozen vampires were introduced at once, with no characterization at all to help the reader keep track of who is who. After a while I gave up caring. The villain appeared just in time to have a battle, and then that was it. End of book. There was no build up, no suspense, no satisfying conclusion. Oh, wait, I'm sorry - there was a thrown in epilogue of yet another tear-filled angstfest from Chris. Hooray.
To be honest, I think if the last page read "And then an asteroid fell on Earth wiping everyone out. The end." it would have been an improvement.
This book could have been entertaining, if not unique or ground-breaking, however poor writing, poor pacing, utterly unlikeable characters, and total lack of substance made this one for the trash heap. Not worth the $.89 and 45 minutes it cost me.
I loved the book. Yes, it was short.I finished it in about an hour. But, it was captivating from the start. Very well written. Not choppy. The author finished her thought before jumping ahead. But she also didn't repeat herself the way some authors have a tendency to do. I mean, how many times do you really have to reliterate how a character smelled, or what transpired in a character's background? I am a much better reader than that. I can comprehend and hold my thought long enough to finish a book. The book is very much worth the time and the .99. I can't wait to see what the author produces next.
The world could have been very interesting, but we knew so little about it that it was hard to get drawn in.
