When Sonia Gupta, a successful information technology professional at the peak of her career, finds out that she's pregnant, she has to chose between having a baby and advancing her career - a confounding decision that she feels is akin to choosing between her left and right eyes.

Academic and professional achiever Saroj Sachdev finds his past accomplishments of no utility when confronted with essaying the demanding role of a father to his newborn, and transforms inexplicably from a confident young man to a fumbling bundle of nerves in a month.

Lost in Wilderness is a collection of these and other stories - stories that involve ordinary young men and women who are bright adults leading normal, fulfilling lives but are ill-equipped to take on the real-life challenges of parenthood.

Lost in Wilderness edition by Prathibha Nair Literature Fiction eBooks

This is the type of book that cannot be written without having lived the experience transmitted to the main characters.
A book of short stories about parenting may become tiresome if the content is not varied. This is not the case. The author was able to reproduce the concerns of the working woman in a very modern society -- Arab Emirates -- albeit being immigrants in that country.
I was impressed by the straight-forwardness in all the stories, whether they be of bliss about motherhood, doubt or rejection.
This is a book I recommend to every young, working, striving couple. Responsible parenting is no easy choice.

Lost in Wilderness edition by Prathibha Nair Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Each short story drew parallel's to different families I know. Its a universal situation slapped on parents and the book speaks boldly and spills words into the minds. I like the manner in which the characters speak to each other, not sure if in real-life we all speak the same language even though we all feel the same.
I could not stop once I started reading the stories. The stories really hit home for me. Especially the story "Animal Instrict". It flooded me with memories of the time I used a breast pump for 11 months to feed my daughter as she was born with some abnormalities. I am in awe everytime I see the lengths that a mother will go for the benefit of her child.

Great book that vividly describes the everyday challenges faced by millions of us.
Lost in Wilderness is the first book I have read on parenting. Prathibha Nair gives us glimpses into the lives of varied urbane new moms and dads. I loved her writing style - 'keep it simple'. Although not a parent yet myself, I could well relate to the real life-like characters, situations and social issues that permeate through these stories. My personal favorite moment in the book was her portrayal of motherhood beyond one's own child, in the 'Family Way'. Having volunteered with special children myself, this message resonated with me the most. Overall, a great book that I absolutely recommend reading!
This book is an honest take on modern day couples' journey through parenthood. The author has very cleverly put across both sides perspectives so sensitively, that the reader grapples with the paradox of the situations.

The vividly described stories paint a picture in the mind of the reader that it felt like watching a movie. For a visual person like me, this was a treat. A must read for young parents who truly are "Lost in Wilderness" as they are thrust into parenthood with little or no preparation.
